Another stake in the heart of IE6?

I think it’s great, Chrome isn’t the best browser out there but it is certainly an improvement over IE6 and surely it cannot be a coincidence that it has coincided with Microsoft’s announcement that IE8 is being pushed out as an automatic update.

I’m not sure if the button appears in the IE8 browser, I’ve not had chance to test yet, but if you have please feel free to enlighten me in the comments.

I think that will be an interesting test as well. If the button only appears for IE6 and 7 then Google are trying to speed up the demise of IE6 to improve the web for all, if it appears in IE8 also (which as we know IE8 has made big improvements in terms of web standards etc), then they are trying to steal some of Microsoft’s market share, in favor of Chrome…

I have IE8 installed on my Vista PC and there isn't the Chrome button on there. It also isn't on IE7. It must just be an IE6 thing.
Personally I think they would do better if the button was on all IE browsers as IE6 users are unlikely to take the leap but it least Google are trying to do something about it.

I took the screenshot in IE7 so it's definitely appearing there.
A percentage of IE6 users are people who simply need educating that there are alternatives. And who better than Google to help drive that forward.

I just checked again and you're right, it is there in IE7 too. Maybe it's displayed randomly?
I've yet to see it in IE8 though, but then IE8 isn't that bad compared to its predecessors.
